Cheyenne trio allegedly tried to steal pound of pot in Loveland

Three men from Cheyenne were arrested Tuesday night in Loveland for allegedly trying to steal a pound of marijuana after arranging to purchase the drug.

The incident unfolded at about 9:40 p.m. in the 3800 block of North Grant Avenue, according to a Loveland Police Department media release.

Police were called to the scene about a disturbance between two groups of people in two vehicles. The caller, who was in one of the vehicles, told police that people in the other vehicle had smashed out several windows of his vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was stopped near the intersection of 18th Street and Madison Avenue, police said.

Police investigating the incident said the two parties had met in north Loveland to ” conduct a transaction for one pound of marijuana.”

One of the men, identified as Michael Langley, 20, attempted to “take the marijuana and leave without paying for it,” police said.

Langley told the victim that he was armed with a gun, police said.

Langley allegedly pulled a bat from his pants and smashed a car window of the person who was selling the marijuana.

Another man, James Bergeron, 21, allegedly broke another window of the car driven by the person selling the pot. It was Bergeron’s birthday Tuesday, according to the media release.

The people selling the marijuana sped away from the scene and the trio from Cheyenne gave chase in their vehicle, police said. That’s when the 911 call was made along with the subsequent police stop.

Police identified the third Cheyenne man as 20-year-old Shelby Girten.

All three was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and menacing, both felonies. They are also suspected of misdemeanor criminal mischief.

A pound of marijuana has been seized and is being held as evidence in the case. No firearm was found as part of the investigation, which is ongoing.

The identities of the people selling the pot were not released.
