Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer is standing up with thousands of Americans and calling for the replacement of the current acting administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency, Chuck Rosenberg, because of the harmful comments he made regarding medical marijuana.
Rosenberg recently stated “What really bothers me is the notion that marijuana is also medicinal — because it’s not. … We can have an intellectually honest debate about whether we should legalize something that is bad and dangerous, but don’t call it medicine — that is a joke.”
There is a petition circling on Change.org that is calling for President Obama to remove Mr. Rosenberg from his position as the DEA Administrator. Congressman Earl Blumenauer stated it best when he said that Rosenberg’s opinion on medicinal marijuana is “indicative of a throwback ideology rooted in the failed war on drugs,” and we couldn’t agree more.
Congressman Blumenauer also stated the following in regards to Chuck Rosenberg: “He’s an example of the inept, misinformed zealot who has mismanaged America’s failed policy of marijuana prohibition.” This outdated and misinformed type of viewpoint is one of the reasons why the prohibition of cannabis has remained in place for so long.
The United States is progressing towards ending the prohibition of cannabis once and for all, and we know that this type of viewpoint in our leaders can no longer be tolerated. The petition was started by Marijuana Majority and can be signed here.
