How to Choose the Perfect Weed Vaporizer

Vaporizers come in many different shapes and sizes. While very few products will compete with a Volcano, you can’t exactly put it in your pocket to bring to a concert. Disposable vape pens may be more convenient to take anywhere, but they create a lot of environmental waste and may not heat to optimal temperatures. Rechargeable vape pens solve some of these problems, but there are hundreds of different options to choose from with various features.

In this article, we’ll take a look at five simple steps that you can take in order to ensure that you choose the right vaporizer product for your needs.

Step 1: Assess Your Needs

Vape Holdings Inc. CEO Justin Braune says the first thing to consider is what your goals are with the purchase and then focus on finding the best product in that category.

“There are numerous vaporizers for every type of product – flower, concentrate, liquid concentrate or solid concentrate,” says Mr. Braune. “I’d say the next most important question is whether it’s for portable use or stationary use at home. These two questions will eliminate the majority of the vaporizers in the market.”

You may also want to ask yourself:

  • Are you vaping at home or on-the-go?
  • How often would you use a portable vaporizer?
  • Are you comfortable using prefilled cartridges?
  • What kinds of accessories might you need?

Creating a list of what you need before shopping for a vaporizer can help narrow down exactly what you’re looking for and save you time and money.

Step 2: Look for the Right Features

GoFire’s CMO Richard Cherry says it’s important to make sure that vaporizers have the right set of features, such as temperature controls to ensure an optimal experience.

“Make sure the vaporizer offers temperature control, or has at least one temperature setting below the combustion point,” says Cherry. “Cannabis heated below the combustion point of 392 degrees Fahrenheit will ensure that THC, CBD, and other medically active cannabinoids are present in any vapor consumed, without the unnecessary tars and resins present in smoke at higher temperatures.”

Convection heating sources transfer heat via air particles, which is a superior method because the heating element and materials never touch. Of course, the downside is that this method is costlier than conduction heating where heat is transferred through direct contact. The main drawback with conduction heating is that there’s a risk of combusting the material instead of vaporizing it, while it may be necessary to periodically stir or shake the materials.

Vape Holdings’ Justin Braune adds that many disposable battery style vaporizers don’t have the proper temperature to vaporize an entire disposable cartridge. He recommends looking for at least a 650 mAh battery and something sleek enough to fit in a pocket for maximum usage. When looking at rechargeable vaporizers, it’s also important to consider battery life and recharge times depending on your daily schedule and usage requirements.

Vape is launching one of the smallest portable vaporizers on the market right now – just a little larger than a chap stick tube, featuring a magnetic cartridge, a 650 mAh battery, USB and pass-through charging, and disposable cartridges that actually slide inside of the device instead of screwing on top to further reduce the size.

Step 3: Watch for These Drawbacks

Vape Holdings’ Justin Braune warns users to carefully read the warranty information to make sure that they can return defective products without any issues.

“Many of the vaporizers that hold product inside of them, once used even the first time, become ‘drug paraphernalia’ and may void the warranty of the entire device,” says Braune. “Imagine spending hundreds of dollars on a vaporizer only to find that the battery is defective on your first drag and it cannot be returned because there’s medicine in it!”

GoFire’s Richard Cherry also warns customers to be wary of vaporizers that aren’t manufactured from medical grade materials, since they can cause a host of issues.

“Many of today’s portable vaporizers offer heating elements with exposed metallic coils that will slowly oxidize with use, creating unwanted medical particulates, which, when released, are ingested along with the vapor,” says Cherry. “These particulates not only cause a metallic taste, altering the consumer experience, but are also known carcinogens.”

GoFire has developed an innovative, medical-grade, liquid and solid concentrate vaporizer pen with visual dose control, temperature control, and application control to encourage responsible moderation for personal and medical use.

Vapir Enterprises CEO Hamid Emarlou says that customer service is another key attribute to look for when shopping for vaporizers.

“Customer service and support is critical after your purchase,” says Emarlou. “Most vaporizers are non returnable once they’re used, so you need to make sure you deal with a reputable company.”

Finally, Danny Davis, an investor with Blackout X, says, “It’s important when evaluating cartridges for use with oil that the consumer stays away from cheap plastic cartridges that leak and waste product. Spend the time and money on evaluating the newer ceramic, glass, and stainless steel cartridges. The quality of the oil should not be undercut by the quality of the delivery system.”

Step 4: Read the Reviews

The last step before pulling the trigger on a vaporizer is to read customer reviews, if they’re available. Since you usually can’t try out a vaporizer before buying it, these customer reviews are the next best thing to ensuring that you’re buying a high quality product.

There are many different websites that specialize in reviewing vaporizer products, including VapeCritic.com and VaporizerBlog.com. In addition, you may want to simply run a Google search on the product you’re considering to see if there’s any commentary in forums, message boards, or other communities. If a lot of people are running into the same problems, it may be time to reevaluate the product you’re thinking about purchasing.

It may also be a good idea to contact the company regarding any concerns. Often times, vaporizer manufacturers are relatively small operations that will respond quickly to any customer inquiries. Some concerns highlighted in reviews may have been solved or mitigated in a more recent product launch. These companies may also help you choose between products to find the best solution to meet your needs.

Step 5: Make the Purchase

The final step is actually purchasing a vaporizer. Often times, you can find coupon codes or other deals by searching online or shopping during the holiday season. But, it’s important to remember that it’s worth spending a little extra money to buy a great vaporizer rather than settling for a cheaper option that may not even work after a couple weeks. You’ll be glad that you put in the time and research with every drag you take.
