Sheriff: DougCo K-9's sniff out 50 lbs. marijuana heading out of Colorado

In the past two weeks, drug-sniffing dogs at the Douglas County Sheriff’s office have sniffed out 50 pounds of marijuana authorities say was headed for distribution out of state.

Authorities say several people have been arrested after two seizures following traffic stops. Their identities were not immediately released.

On Dec. 27, a dog helped alert deputies to a 30-pound stash of pot, the sheriff’s office said.

Then, on Wednesday, another canine alerted investigators to 20 pounds of marijuana in another vehicle.

The sheriff’s office says the two cases are not related.

Officials estimate the street value of the marijuana at $100,000.
