Ah, the kit.
It’s a different variation for every smoker — some are simply just a joint and a lighter, others are overflowing with accessories. However dialed-in you keep your supplies, it’s always a buzz kill when you’re scrambling for something. So here at The Cannabist, our Smoker Supply Kits will prepare you for any occasion.
Yes, smoking cannabis is technically illegal at ski resorts in Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Alaska, whose mountains often occupy federal land. But there’s a reason gondolas are called “ganjulas” — it has long been a standard part of many a skier’s and rider’s ritual.
In the years since legalization, let’s revisit a few examples of the fight against marijuana in Colorado mountain towns: Vail Resorts blew up historic smoke shacks, Pitkin County issued an ordinance prohibiting marijuana (and liquor) from the 2016 X Games and Backcountry Cannabis Company (formerly Breckenridge Cannabis Club) got kicked off of Main Street. It’s still a sad reality that getting caught smoking slopeside might cost you your pass, and getting a citation for public consumption isn’t cheap.
For a hard-partying culture that serves alcohol at almost every single on-mountain establishment and happily celebrates the tradition of après ski, isn’t it about time responsible cannabis use got treated as an equal part of the scene? As you would when having a beer with your chili at lunch, know your tolerance and smoke smart.
Editor’s Note: Be mindful of local laws and the environment when you’re out on the hill, and know the Code.

Show your pride for the state that was first to legalize it with the warmest mitts on Earth. Hand-sewn in the USA, past meets present with a design based on original works of the Cree Indian Tribe and insulation with Polartec Thermal Pro High Loft. Silicon-injected suede leather makes them even more waterproof, so your hands are completely dry when it’s time to light up.
2. Burton Hellbrook Jacket, $319.95

3. Vapium Summit portable vaporizer, $149.99
Created specifically for use in the outdoors and tested in snow and extreme cold, the Summit is one of the most rugged vaporizers you could take off the grid. Built for loose-leaf flower, this vape has a reinforced rubber grip with a tethered and magnetic chamber lid that saves you from dropping anything. It also has a weatherproof USB cable and solar-powered charger (it’s compatible with cell phones too) for when you’re out touring the backcountry.
4. Folsom Custom Skis, from $850
A pair of custom boards made completely by hand is a rarity in the big business of skiing. But for Denver-based Folsom Custom Skis, it’s the norm. The focus for the 100 percent rider-owned company is on individual on-mountain needs using sustainable materials — most sourced right here in Colorado — with limited-edition topsheet graphics often created by the customers themselves. The “Juicy Fruit” graphic was introduced just after recreational sales started in 2014, and The Cannabist got the downlow on how FCS gets it done in the first of our Shop Sesh interviews. The ganja graphic is still in their rotation, or you can commission a photo of your own home grown.
5. Black Rock Originals Safety Case, $49.95 (empty), $69.95 (stocked)
Made for adventures, this smell-proof, compact case fits perfectly into any jacket pocket without getting in the way. Its weatherized exterior adds an additional layer of protection, and the case can be purchased fully stocked with everything you need: lighter, grinder card, rolling papers and two medical-grade “pebble” containers. Elastic straps keep everything in place during fast laps.
