In what will be filed as the most fascinating cannabis story this year, the Toronto Maple Leafs are currently involved in a legal skirmish with the one and only Snoop Dogg.
Back in November of 2015 Mr. Doggie Dogg, also known as Calvin Broadus Jr., filed a trademark with the US Patent Office for his new line of cannabis products called Leafs by Snoop. Further to that, the logo for Snoop’s new line is a green, seven-leaf plant that looks arguably similar to the Maple Leafs‘ logo.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have naturally told Snoop to drop it like it’s hot because the name and logo are too close to their long-standing brand. They have done so by filing an opposition on June 8th. They have also asked the trademark office for more time to create a case so they can show why Snoop’s new brand will water down their classic gin & juice.
It’s too early to tell who will win this one, but all you have to do is look at the Maple Leafs’ record to know Snoop will probably be victorious.
